Points for passing? (was: Points for qualifying?)

Perhaps one way to bring back passing is to award extra points for
passing while on the track, and while in (or entering into) a points
paying position.  No points for passing in the pits, or passing due to
the obvious mechanical problems of others.

To be fair, equivelent extra points should be awarded for not being
passed as well, under the same criteria of being in a points position,
and defending it for the entire race (on the track).

I'd rather see this than points for qualifying.

Oh no!   It's starting to sound like NHL hockey.   This season they started
to award points to teams that lose a game in the overtime period.

There is a lot of conjecture about a few teams that made the playoffs this
year having did so by virtue of losing games and still gaining points.

I prefer to see points awarded for the race, not passing or pit stops (even
though in F1 it seems at times that it can be a pit stop competition instead
of a race).

Watch for the increase in momentary glitches in the engine management
systems.

Barrichello: Oh... I could have kept Heinz Harald at bay, and was. But
then the engine stalled momentarily...

Also imagine the scenario in the last race when somebody needs a
single point to clinch the championship  OR requires that his rival
doesn't score at all. Watch the "passing moves" that get attempted in
that kind of situation.

Points for passing? (was: Points for qualifying?)

I agree.
FIA should include more points in a race.
For example, one point for the 1st in qualifs
and one point for each regular passing.
But the FIA has to change too the points results.
give points to the first 5 is too little.
Why not like others cars championships ? :
1st: 20 pts
2nd: 15 pts
3rd : 12 pts
4 th: 10 pts
5 th: 8 pts
6th: 5 pts
7th: 4 pts
8th: 3 pts
9th: 2ts
10th: 1pts

All this will increase the e***ment of the race.
WHat do u think ?
