Autosport (UK) Driver Ratings #7 - Monte Carlo

Post by Brian_W_Lawre.. » Fri, 01 Jun 2001 18:26:20

Last season the UK weekly motorsport magazine Autosport (www.autosport.com)
began to publish a driver rating after each race. They don't elaborate on
how they arrive at the ratings, or who makes them. However, it soon became
obvious that the rating MUST take practice and qualifying into account -
it's not just the race itself.

These were their ratings for Monte Carlo (points out of 10):

 9  Fisi, EI
 8  MS, MH, Jos, Alonso
7  RB, DC, RS, Trulli, JV, Bernoldi, Alesi
 6  Button, Panis, R?ikk?nen, Burti
 5  Montoya, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Marques
 0  De la Rosa

The season to date:

Well done to Raikkonen and Alonso, very impressive.

Well these almost look sensible ..

They seem to have marked DC down for not passing Bernoldi and perhaps his
mistake in practice (contact with the barrier?) - actually they rated he
and Bernoldi the same ..!

A litle unfair on DC imho, MS clipped the barrier in qualifying too. I
think JV, Kimi (two in a row under-ranked I feel) and Alesi (in a
Prost for heaven's sake!) may have deserved slightly better. But this
race seems I'm nit picking.

Under new management...?

I read them this morning and thought even you couldn't find too much
wrong with them this time! ;-)

Look reasonable to me... no arguments here.

Of course Stefan Johansson should be #1 but the small matter of not
having a drive is having an adverse effect on his standings in F1. :-)

See ya,

Steve.

LOL! Can't disagree with that Steven <G>

BTW - If you ever get a chance then watch the Jarama ELMS race - Stefan
at his best...until the brakes failed!

Indeed.   I've been watching Alonso since the start of the year.
Standing at the braking point to turn 13 in Melbourne during
practise, he was braking at the same point as the McLarens
whereas his teammate (Marques) was clearly braking much earlier.

If I can make a prediction - Alonso WC 2006 and 2007  :)
