According to http://www.montrealgazette.com/GRAND/gpsked.html, there is a
"Ferrari Challenge" race at 9:15 on race day. Does anyone know anything else
about this?

thanks,

Bob

It's a race for Ferrari F355 cars.  Pretty good show last year if I
recall.

If you are a Ferrari fan, the only thing better will be seeing Michael
and Eddie shaking hands with Johnny on the podium    :-)

it is a series for ferrari owners. They race F355s and 348s. I think  that
the only mods to the cars are bigger brakes, though I'm not certain. It's
loads of fun to watch because half the drivers have not the slightest idea
how to drive. As a result a few good drivers win the race easily and the
rest of the pack fling their cars all over (and off the track) in a vain
attempt to keep up. Going to a competition driving school would do most of
them a world of good.

I got a wonderful photograph last year of one of the professional
photographers leaping out of the way as one of the cars bounced off the
armco right where he had his camera through the fence. As the car entered
the hairpin at the west end of the track it was obvious he was going off
so I was able to get a couple of shots commerating his off track
excursion.

This race was also responsible for my best photo of the whole weekend of a
pack of Ferraris all going through the corner each pointing in its own
direction.

If you are up to getting to the track early enough for it, it is
a pretty good event.  I don't know how it will be run this year, but last
year it was run in two separate heats.  The drivers are not professionals,
just a bunch of people who forked over enough cash for a Ferrari and
the requisite sum to enter the Ferrari Challenge.  Being that they are not
pros, the race is quite interesting because although there are quite a few
very good drivers, it is fun to see how the average drivers keep up.
Last year the leader of one of the races got booted off by a
pursuer right in front of us in the hairpin, then blazed through the
field to catch back up.  It was more exciting than the F1 race and had
the crowd on its feet cheering.
I wouldn't miss the race, if only for the opportunity to 1) hear
the sound of a trackful of Ferraris and 2) be guaranteed to see at least
one race this weekend won by a Ferrari.

Yeah, they are Ferrari 355s and 348s that race each other.
When they get to fender banging, they're fun to watch!
I'm waiting for them to use the 550 Maranello!

Ben
