: use Groove tyres & it is shorter. Would the cars be slower or faster?
: Anyone please let me know if u know more about the new  1998 cars.
:
: BTW anyone here have a picture of the 1998 Williams?
:
Slower!!! (5-10secs / lap) they are not shorter..(?) but 20cm narrower..
(will be 180cm), and yes they will have grooved tyres. Villeneuve has
said that new rules have a change to ruin whole sport. enough said.

SLOWER!!! Did you think that the FIA would change the rules so the
cars could go faster? ;-)

AFAIK (and that is not much to go by regarding this) there
is no 1998 Williams as of yet. The car they tested was just
an old car made 20 cm narrower and shoed(sp?) with grooved tyres.

FORZA!

The cars are narrower and slower (lap times). Top speed and braking
distances have increased. This sounds good for passing, but JV has said
that the cars
get so nervous under braking, that instead of passing someone you will
crash
right into them. The tires reach their limit well before the driver
reaches his limit,
which means that the slower drivers will be closer to the faster drivers
in terms of performance, but the cars won't be much fun to drive. The FIA
is thinking about reducing the number of grooves. JV and Ferrari are
against the grooves, and several teams and drivers are starting to have
the same opinion.

They've been the slowest cars when testing with this years cars so far.
I don't think they will be as fast as this years cars for some time (a
year or two).

Undoubtably faster.

With the designers/drivers/knowledge in F1, they could go to only THREE
tires and next years cars would probably be 2 sec faster.

1998 cars are nowhere near completion. Williams has tested a 1995 modified to
a 1998 PROPOSED spec. The narrow cars are not yet approved and Ferrari will
Veto them.

They'll look like F3000 cars too.

I guess that means I can lap them on my bicycle. . .
