F1 less popular?

Post by Richard Yi » Sat, 15 Jun 1996 04:00:00

Is F1 racing getting less popular? I remember they were 26 or 28 cars. This year they are only 22
cars. Team like Simtek already pulled out. Experience drivers are getting less. Engine
manufacturer like Honda had pulled out long long time ago. And at last the sports are very
expensive. Any opinion?

Richard

Nope.  Not a lot of new teams can afford to play this game.

They went broke.  That's why.  The same goes to Pacific, Lotus and
possibly Forti...

They don't think involving in F1 will help much will their R&D for
engines anymore.  That's why they pulled out.

Actually I don't really know why, but the number of F1 on a
F1 track seemas to be limited at 22 cars : remember two years
ago, there were 24 cars, but at each GP 2 of them DNQ.

In caes you are unaware Honda is planning a return to F1! Their Indy
experience has not been too successful in their eyes, though they have
some wins under their belt

Formula One can't be that un-popular, as next season there is the Dome team entering,
the Stewart GP team, and another british team - I forget the name - entering.

Dome have had live track tests, with a Mugen engine
Stewart GP havn't made that much progress, I don't think (Correct me if I'm wrong)
The other team is undergoing wind tunell tests at MIRA.
