Testing will continue again tomorrow in Spain. Most teams have again
traveled to the Montmello circuit, 25 km near Barcelona. It will very
likely be be the last major test in Barcelona before the first GP.
Most teams have planned one or two test sessions at Silverstone for
the next two weeks which will mainly be shakedown tests or component
tests for ongoing development work.
Teams to be in Barcelona this week include at least Benetton, McLaren,
Prost, Tyrrell, Minardi, Williams, Jordan and Sauber. The situation
around Stewart GP is still unsure. The team still seems to have some
troubles with the new gearbox which is a completely new carbon fibre
design. These problems withhold the team from doing any major testing.
Arrows has also tested the, yet to be officially launched, A-19
recently at Silverstone. Reliability also looks to be a major issue
with Arrows which also still has not announced the name that will be
on the badge of the Hart V10 engines that the team will use this year.
McLaren has tested the MP4-13 for the first time this week at Magny
Cours. The team encountered some problems, mainly with the gearbox,
but is confident enough to continue testing in Barcelona.
Ferrari already announced last week to continue testing at both
Mugello and Fiorano this week. The team doesn't want to be away from
the factory while testing the F300. Michael Schumacher will drive the
F300 tomorrow at Fiorano while Eddie Irvine continues tyre testing at
Results from the test sessions will be available via our test section.
