Besides the grooved tires and the narrow car, they also change the disc brakes, I think. With the new brakes, wich are not as good as they use now, the drivers have to step on the brake much earlier. This way overtaking another driver should make that easier, at least they hope it will.

In keeping with Damon's approach to Imola (mentioned above in "shocker"), and
the push for increased "entertainment", in 1998 drivers will have to slow the
cars by dragging their feet!  Nike and Reebock are said to be developing some
hard ***.  Jacque Villenueve reportedy was marginally placated by the chance
that RollerBlades may replace the equally serious grooved tires (aka tyres).
