Does anybody know if the new Williams will be a Williams-Mecachrome or a
Williams-SuperTec ?

In fact it is the same engine.

At the end of 1997, Williams closed a two year contract with Mecachrome. But
the situation with Briatore could change all that ?

I think
Williams-Super Tec
(I don't think they got a sponsor to change the engine name - like
Benetton)

Williams have always maintained that they do not have a contract with
either Mecachrome or Supertec, but directly with Renault. I don't recall
it ever beeing sorted out whether Williams has to pay the Supertec
prices rather than their original deal.

Hi Michel,
the new Williams will be a Williams-SuperTec. I read it in the paper "Motorsport
aktuell".

Have a nice day,

Gunni

When I was reading in the January 1999 edition of AutoSport International
they listed Williams as Williams-Supertec. Hope that sheds some light.

Yes, but the car itself is a Williams-Supertech.

Winfield are the main sponsors of the Williams team (like B&H
Jordan....that's the only one I can think of, but I'm sure they're all
like that). Supertec/Mecachrome are the engine suppliers to the team. So
in any big press release or something, it should really be "Winfield
Williams Supertec". I quite like the longer names, such as "Benson and
Hedges Jordan Mugen-Honda". Far too long, so it's a good job they shorten
it to "Jordan Honda".
