I'm fed up with the rubbish on this ng - is anyone else?

Post by te.. » Sat, 14 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I've only been on line a few weeks but I am unsubscribing this group
because of all the pointless name calling and ridiculous claims that X
is the best driver ever and the fact that he hasn't won anything was
because his teddy was being held hostage so he had to lose to save its'
life (OK so that's not quite how they read!).

Unless the group splits (and I can't see how that could be done) I will
not be back.

You can in response:

  - discount this message as the ravings of a self opinionated idiot
  - email me with a really intelligent message just to show me your     not
all brainless
  - tell me what can be done about it.

My own idea was to set up a web page which would become a moderated
discussion point.  I haven't got a clue how to do that yet but I've
started by putting a few of my own (Anglo-centric and not especially
well thought out) opinions on the page.

www.users.globalnet.co.uk/f1.html

Hopefully I'll get a few return comments (even more hopefully they will
be constructive expansions or criticisms of the points on the page) and
I can put a few on the page to promote more discussion.  Let me know if
this has been done already and I'll happily join in.

Even if the group splits, short of moderating the groups you're still
going to get these sort of posts - A news reader with filtering
capabilities is what you need - You may have heard of Free Agent, but
there is a pay version called Agent (something like $25) which is
superb for filters - You can set up a 'killfilter' for e.g. Subject:
"is" and "best" and "driver" - In future any headers which this filter
picks up won't be shown to you. It's also possible to get rid of 90%
of the make money fast type messages too :)

First of all, you got your own address wrong.  This is very bad, Don't
do it again.  Your web page is at

Yes, but if you want the freshness of an unmoderated group, you're going
to get a lot of posts that are badly thought out - I know, I've sent a
few.

If you don't like pointless name calling and ridiculous claims, you
won't like these:

"We enjoy watching Coulthard beat Hakkinen because the Finn is
overrated."

"Johnny Herbert is our favourite driver and given a car which keeps
going he'll win a couple this year."

"Eddie Irvine can't be bothered - he's already got his helicopter so why
try to get himself killed (unless he does it taking out Villeneuve that
is."

Where did these quotes come from?  Your own web site of course!!!

Where's the name calling?  Those are opinions.  Name calling would be if I
said that one of the drivers was an idiot.

It's true, there's a lot of noise.  But; Even the New York Times carries a

Just what I'm looking for:  Ill-concieved racist ramblings...  When I can
just tune in Watson ?  Not likey.

It's already been pointed out that this address is incorrect:

Watson would pronounce that using 9 syllables...  Two of which would be
pronounced in tones beyond the range of human hearing.  One would rhyme with
"HOOAAACKKE".

Oh dear I must stop expressing opinions on this newsgroups and just stick
to insulting people.

Here's another opinion:

Tom Walkinshaw knows exactly what he's doing.  Compare Arrow's performance
against the only other team which has had less than a year to make a
winning car - Stewart.  And don't tell me that Arrows had a car and so have
had less work to do.  Jackie S chose the new team route for a reason.

The only reason Arrows have not turned in the results Stewart have is the
engine.  I don't know what engine TWR will negotiate for next year but when
they get it they will start winning.  TW does not know how to lose.

If Arrows had had the Ford V10 they would have been well up the tables
compared to Stewart.

Oh and before someone else tells me I don't know what I'm talking about
saying Arrows are better than Stewart I think Stewart racing will probably
get their first win by mid next season as well, Ford willing.  Jackie also
doesn't know how to lose.
