Cricket and Lord of the Rings

The following was sent in to Harry Knowles at Aint-it-cool-news.com. I
thought it was an interesting aside:

You may know this already but I saw in a local Wellington newspaper
that they are going to be sound recording for the battles in The Two
Towers and Return Of The King (the sequels to Lord of the Rings:
Fellowship of the Rindg) at the New Zealand Vs England one day cricket
international in Wellington they said it will last about 20 minutes
and the want to record yells,screams,stamping..etc sounds like fun

Mein Gott.  Does this mean I'll be hearing chants of "Barmy Army" when I see
The Two Towers?

Cheers, ymt.

I'm not sure about the customs in NZ, but does this mean there will also
be cries of "Give Us our Ball Back!" and "Member's are ***ers!".  I'd
like to see in Helms Deep a scene where the two sides are fighting it
out happily, but every so often taking their eyes and hands off the
fight in order the keep the giant beach ball in the air.

I guess at Helms Deep they could even have a kind of giant volleyball
game going using the wall as a net.

I must admit I was thinking of it more from the LOTR side than the cricket
side. And the coming of Darkness Unescapable :-)

<g>  I missed the chance there - bad light is much better.  Though strictly
speaking with the collapse of the Morgul innings the clouds cleared a bit
didn't they?

Or was it when Frodo scored his century?

Shortly after reaching that magic mark, he retired hurt after a vicious blow
to his hand. Next batsman was Gollum. Out first ball, hit wicket!

It's a pretty small army at the moment so probably not. I think
reinforcements are being sent for the tests.

Even with the new "one bouncer an over" rule, there are going to be buckloads of
balls going over the heads of the hobbits. I can foresee a large score in the
Extra's column...

I thought Gandalf was the only one with the magic mark

i though the real turning point in the match was early on when Saruman
dropped Gandalf, who then went on to provide valuable support to both
Aragorn and Frodo's innings'.

and Tom Bombadil was fielding at Silly Point throughout.
