So whom did Rahane p**s off?

First Dhawan gets injured and the bigwigs call up Gambhir as backup.  With everyone assuming that Gambhir will open and Rahane will set on the bench.

Rahane promises to shave his head at Tirupathi, and Gambhir is promptly diagnosed with jaundice.  All seems well, except wait -- Raina is picked.

Seems reasonably safe, because Raina wouldn't be trusted to open in an ODI against Zimbabwe, let alone Australia in a Test -- except the latest buzz is that Pujara will open, and Raina will return at #6.

Hopefully, it is all rubbish and Rahane gets a much anticipated debut, scores a ton on debut and puts real pressure on the selectors,

Until Jadeja scores enough runs in Tests, we need a specialist batter
at 6. Far too many holes with a top 5 that has Vijay, Dhawan, SRT and
coolie. Truly fantastic double ton notwithstanding, Dhoni is no #6.
And Jadeja in any country but India will be supernumerary with the
ball.

This of course doesn't explain why our selectors need to pick a #6 to
fix a hole at the top of the order and keep 'benching' poor Rahane.

All we need Jadeja is to score a 50 which he will convert it into a triple. I wouldn't judge any batsman based on sub 10 scores. Those are random events.

The real Test-Batting skill comes from converting a start to a big score.
