Miandad etc.

Normally when I speak with my folks back home, cricket is
never the subject -- they are not interested.  But this
time they expressed their distaste for the sacking.  Team
discipline was the issue, the news papers said.  Miandad
is still in the team, though, in spite of pre-mature
celebrations amongst the anti-Miandad elements amongst the
Indian supporters :).  Aamir Sohail is out.

This is from folks who know next to nothing about cricket.
But this is what you will have to contend with till SAN
gives us the hot skinny.

Afraid I do not have a lot of the details. I spoke to some players
yesterday and this is what I found out.  Aamir indeed is out, Ghulam
Ali, a new opener is in. Shoiab is back in the side. Saeed Anwar is
also in the team.  The rest is pretty much unchanged from the WSC
side.

Apparently there was a lot of friction between JM and SM and RR. By
all accounts this was the major problem that caused strife and
indiscipline in the team. On top of this, JM wanted a two year
appointment as captain. In light of the strife between the senior
players and the fact that the board was not prepared to extend a two
year appointment, it was decided to go with a less senior and somewhat
more palatable (as far as the team was concerned) choice.  This
explains why SM or RR were not chosen.  It is also to be noted that WA
and WYounis are good friends so that also explains why WY was chosen
as the VC (cut down chances of further strife between a captain and
his deputy).

SM and RR had been dropped from the the initial list of 14 players
chosen for this tour. Only some last minute changes saw them back and
the cardinality of the contingent was increased to 16. Safe to say
that SM and RR have their task cut out for them. JM is quite upset
over the dropping of Aamir Sohail. The people I spoke to also were not
pleased with this decision. After all, nobody made any runs on the
WSC/NZ series so why just take it out on Aamir?

My personal view is that RR's days are numbered. He has to start
scoring runs consistently. And Malik has to stop playing games with
his yo-yo up and down the batting order. Gte him to play #3/#5 and cut
the BS. And start making osme runs consistently.

I certainly hope so, lets hope it does not spoil things between the two
and also waqar's bowling is not affected, akram i fell can handle the
responsibility of captaincy but waqar, thats a big question ?
