Dec 14th 1999

Cricketers around the world are celebrting the fortunate death of
Umpire Darryl Harper. Harper who had a brilliant carrier with the
Australian Cricket team was also the official Umpire of the Austrlian
cricket team travelling with the team to each and every cricket match
they played. In the words of the greatest legends in Cricket and
harpers fellow country man 'DON BRADMAN', Harper gave the word 12th man
a new definition. Harper in his match at Adelaid against India in dec
1999 single handed won the match for India by claiming the wicket of
Sachin Tendulkar twice in the match, a feat that few bowlers have done
so far. Well this is what makes Darryl Harper different. Harper in
interview said that his aim in life was to break Kapil Dev's record of
maximum number of test wickets and that he planned to do this without
bowling a single bowl. Asked how he would handle the threat that the
australian batsmen faced from class bowlers like Murlitharan and Shoab
Akhtar, Harper replied "oh....I used to bother about them earlier, but
now I have "CHUCKED" the thought ever since I became Australias lead
attack bowler and batsman.

Harper may have finally acheived his goal and set a record that will
remain unchallanged for a long time to come. At the time of his
fortunate death Darryl Harper was leading the all time batting and
bowling averages. The cricketing skill that Darryl Harper had can be
best indicated by his carrer bowling stats: -

Overs       Maidens         Runs          Wickets
  0           0              0              500

The Australian cricket board is moaning the death of Darryl Harper and
is looking for another full time Umpire for the team. In his comments
to this reporter Shane Warne said

"Harper couldn't Bat, Couldn't bowl,
But he was the all time leading wicket taker for australia"

Darryl Harper was in a league of his own.

He will rise again from the dead, wear his long white coat, and raise that
dreaded finger high up in the air to send shivers down the spine of batsmen
and watch them make that long journey back to the dressing room.

I'll make a movie on it "Error on Harper Street."
