The congress party is hoping to piggyback on sachin's vast popularity.
That is why they have given sachin this honor. The sad part is that
whatever media hype and brand enhancement gain the congress party
hopes to achieve by this will soon be washed away. There is a
tremendous anti congress stance by many in India today. Their immense
corruption and massive misgovernance has led to a disenchantment by
many especially the youth of the country. Therefore, instead of sachin
enhancing the reputation of the congress party it seems that sachin's
image will take a beating if he associates himself with the congress
party. Since he got the nomination from the president of India it
would be better if sachin remains neutral. He can certainly choose to
do so as many nominated members of the Rajya Sabha have done so in the
past. (Joining no political party and choosing to remain independent).
If sachin does that and remains truly independent throughout his 6
year tenure (not even choosing to vote in favor of the congress party
but even casting his vote truly as an independent) than he may still
maintain some of his dignity. Otherwise sachin too will get
discredited alongwith many others who chose to go down the path of the
neta. Especially if he aligns himself with the congress party.
