OT - Sky Sports TV coverage (UK) how good is it?

How good is it overall? How much live coverage do you get of englands
overseas tours and of other overseas cricket tours?

How good is the live coverage of other sports? eg tennis, golf, rugby, US
sports, Olympics, etc?

How comprehensive is the local and internation soccer coverage?

I'm trying to compare the quality of sports offerings available. My Canadian
friend labours under appalling sports coverage.

How do the rest of us go?

Generally pretty good coverage. The  commentators are a far more
personal taste. But bear in mind it does cost around 14 pm for 4
channels plus individual subscription for extra channels to get (even)
more coverage of soccer games Prem Plus. I subscribe mainly for
cricket and rugby (both codes) we have recently had most NZ rugby
Premiership games also we get the super 12s and Trinations. We usually
get the Aussie Rugby league season maybe the Union but not much if
any. We also get Aussie  (no) Rules which I enjoy.

Cricket coverage is usually good we are curently getting the VB series
but not all matches. The Zimbabwe England games were not shown I
believe Sony Asia TV got these and were available on Sky as an extra
sub.

Olympics is covered by the BBC or ITV terrestial channels Golf gets a
lot of air time NFL gets at least 1 live game a week along with
highlight of others NBA is covered but I don't know at what level as I
don't like Basketball. NHL gets some coverage MLB gets a little should
be more for my liking. Tennis I don't follow but it does seem to cover
some of the Grand Prix games..

Football is the raison de etre for Sky Sports in the UK. literally
every Premiership game is covered as is most of the Championship
(lower leagues) Lots of coverage of other Euro leagues inc Spain and
Germany also Champions League and EUFA cup. Some South American
football Euro cup, African Cup, World Cup the list goes on.

Coverage is as I say comprehensive as to the quality well variable is
the best word IMHO.

Sorry Mick I should have said that the 14 pm was over and above the
normal basic subscription price of 19pm I currently pay 33 pm for
the basic plus Sky Sports as it also includes my Sky+ subs as well

The commentators are (except England games) the national commentators for
the tests being played. In the current Oz games the Channel 9 logo is semi
blurred out (though it's still obviously there) and replaced by "Sky
Sports Live".

Then in the intervals there is chit chat between a studio guy (usually Ian
Ward or Charles Colvile) and one or two players or ex-players from the
countries involved.

It is quite watchable.

Thanks, we get the 2 major sports chanels as part of the basic subscription.
ESPN is part of the extra packages but since ESPN is pretty crap, I don't
think too many people who don't have it would be worried about that. Our
basic package is about $48 per month. Free to air television also provides a
lot of sports coverage. For serious sport lovers though, you must have pay
tv. free to air televsion only covers the australian domestic summer in
cricket, for example.
