New Look Indian Test Team without the two of the 4 in the top MO.

Gambhir
Jaffer
Laxman
Dhoni
Yuvraj
Karthik(WK)
Pathan( assuming a turnaround) or Joginder Sharma
Kumble/Chawla
Murali Karthik / Sreesanth
Zaheer
RP Singh

I think a left arm spinner is needed in the team and also a bowling
all rounder. It will be difficult to drop Sreesanth as he is the most
exciting fast bowling prospect in India, but RPS was very good at
Lords and Zaheer is the most consistent. I do not say that this is a
better team than the one in T1, but a team with a better balance with
a good chance of performing.

If we want to look ahead, I surely would
include the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa,
Venugopal Rao, Raina, Kaif in the mix. Pagnis is
an option, too.

Munaf Patel, Sreesanth, Pathan, Zaheer, RP Singh,
Balaji and Agarkar should feature on the list of
quicks.

Murali Kartik may well be yesterday's news. Should
we be talking of Pragyan Ojha? Will Bhajji ever make
a comeback?

Kartik  just shy of 31 , this season has got 18 wickets at 28.16 with
a best of 5 for 38 playing for Middlesex. Munaf should start bowling a
little faster. Kaif is a possibility, but who would you drop ? same
thing about Raina and Agarkar.  Choice btw Gambhir and Uthappa is a no
brainer: Gambhir at 25 yrs of age  has 20 FC hundreds at an average of
over 52 and averages 36 in tests. while Uthappa at 22 averages 42 with
six hundreds.Others are a few seasons from consideration.

I never understand why anybody would want to watch a batsman who is fidgety
and restless with an awkward stance and jumps and dances at the crease and
the fielding position.

I dont think Uthappa is technically good enough to be a test opener.....

I wanted to show a team with just the youngest person in the middle
order, laxman(32) included. However, I take your point. Dravid(34) is
still the top batter in India. The only person that can be dropped
will be Gambhir for Dravid. Pathan could open: As Karthik is to be the
WK he should not open.

Robin Uthappa doesn't seem to have the temperament
of a Test opener. Shikhar Dhawan seems a good
prospect, but the selectors should wait for a couple
of years before ***ing him in Tests. For the MO
spots, I would prefer to try out batsmen like Rohit
   Sharma and Manoj Tewari.

RP Singh definitely impressed me in the Lord's Test.
I never rated him very high but he should now be
ahead of Pathan and Munaf Patel in the pecking
   order.

Bhajji could possibly make a comeback after Kumble
retires from Test cricket. Powar and Harbhajan would
then be fighting for the lone spinner's spot (in seaming
conditions overseas). IMO, Harbhajan at his best has
   a definite edge over Powar.

The two best batting prospects this year were Rohit Sharma and Manoj Tiwary.
Manoj messed up his shoulder in BD and is out for a long spell.  Rohit is
having moderate success in Zim.  I do not see Dhoni any way qualified to
hold the anchor position at #4.  Tiwary is the propsect for this role if he
mends and regains form.

Piyush Chawla appears to be the only long term spin prospect for tests once
Kumble retires.  17-yr-old Shahbaz Nadeem of Jharkhand may grow to be a good
slow left armer.  Anyone else come close in spin?  Powar, Pawar, Lahiri and
Murali have come and gone.

As to pace bowlers - most are on display in England.  If Pathan regains his
early form it will be great - but that's a big if.  I admire Ranadeb Bose,
but at 28 he is in a tough spot trying to break in.  If he gets a match in
England and does well he may survive, else Rono will be forgotten like
Mohanty, Ismail and Kuruvila.
