Dhawan or Mukund?

Dhawan or Mukund?

Shikar Dhawan made it into the ODI squad instead of his ROI opening
partner, Abhinav Mukund.

I watched a bit of the Irani Trophy game -- they showed a 2 hours
highlights package on Neo, and I caught it in the hotel after I landed
in Mumbai on D1.  From what I saw, Mukund looked the better bat than
Shikar Dhawan.  Furthermore, Mukund substantially outscored Dhawan in
that game, 161 & 63 versus 83 and 13.  Also, a glance at their records
show that Mukund has a 10-run better average on the first class scene
as well -- 56 in 29 matches vs. Dhawan's 46 in 52 matches.  The same
story in List A, Mukund's 58 avg versus Dhawan's 46 average with
almost identical 85 strike rates.

The only thing *against* Mukund is his age -- he is only 20 to
Dhawan's 24, and maybe the powers that be think the lad needs more
seasoning.  (But this would be the first time when youth played
*against* someone:-)

Anyone who has seen these two bat -- in IPL or First Class -- care to
comment on why Dhawan is more preferred?

Not a single doubt that Mukund is a far far better and technically
adept
player than Dhawan. Having seen Dhawan play IPL, i can say for sure
that he dosen't have it to make the big stage. Far too often, he feeds
on to big hitting at the other end by his partner and usually fails
when
facing tougher bowling attack.

Mukund, Vijay, Rahane, Pujara, Rohit are the players to watch for
making into the Test side the next 2 years.

Not answering your question as I have never seen Mukund bat. But
Dhawan is my # 1 player to be dropped off from the IPL Mumbai Indians
squad. His first over play of Ashwin in the IPL finals was a shocker
and set the tone for the rest of the match. And its just not 1
incident, the guy is incapable of going beyond the 2nd gear. He would
have been a great asset to a squad in the pre Jayasuriya world but not
so anymore. The guy can get you really riled up if you are a MI fan.
Has a 90s SR for an opener playing for MI in IPL/CS. Rayudu/Tiwary in
my opinion deserve a lot of chances. Tiwary is a much better option
than even Yuvraaj/Rohit/Vijay/Yusuf as far as the limited forms go and
can give Raina more than a run for his money with his consistency.
