Best Batsman of Modern Times - Viv Richards

Best Batsman of Modern Times - Viv Richards

I claim Viv Richards is the best batsman modern times has produced.
I am not in close touch with Cricket now that I dont know if he's
playing as well as he used to (before captaincy?).  Seems good enough
to set the fastest county 100 or something like that. The claim
considers both 5-day and one-day cricket matches.

Let me get a little provocative.  Richards is (was?) better than
Gavaskar, Chappel (you got to be kidding if you thought Ian in this
context), and Miandad.  Gower had class, but isn't quite up there.
Crowe is good, but we're talking about the best.  Greenidge and Haynes
are good, doesn't Haynes have more one-day 100s than Richards?

I am not going to be able to defend my claim with the vigor of some
of you out there.  But I know some Richards fan will. Maybe you guys
can figure out the best of the rest and we can see if he matches Viv :-)
Now that is provocative.  Cheers,

Murali

He's good, but there are a dozen as good, though very few will
ever match Richards at his best.

Gower is being outshone by Robin Smith at Hampshire this season,
while Lamb is playing well.  And you didn't even mention Hick :-)

Gower has been left out of the England side to face the Kiwis
next week.
