First it was Warnie and Mark Waugh who accepted money fron
bookies....not it is hansie............who will be next...Steve Waugh?

warnie and mark also said they didn't fix matches but only provided
pitch and weather info.  hansie is saying the same thing. in both cases
they have accepted that they took money.  in both cases, first they
denied and then accpeted the fact.  i can bet my life that if an
indian/pakistani/sri lankan player had accepted this ICC would have
banned the player for rest of his life.  since it happend in australia
and south africa ICC doesn't have guts ('gurda') to do any thing.
warnie and mark are still playing.  hansie might come back.

it is time for ICC to take some action.  BAN warnie, mark waugh and
hansie from playing international cricket for rest of their lives,
NOW!!!

Was there anyone who seriously suspected Warne and Waugh of fixing
matches????

There is more to come out about Hansie.  Those tape transcripts are
about fixing matches, not providing weather reports.  Hansie will not
be back.  He is a crushed and defeated man now.  His former holier than
thou attitude in all aspects of life sees to that.  He has let his
country down.  A people that as a whole defended him, while he openly
lied.  He was the Captain for gods sake.  And he knew from the
experience of W and W that any involvement with bookies was wrong.  He
is a disgrace to his nation and to cricket.

Assuming the Delhi police hadn't found him out, then Hansie could have
also gone to the SA Board & admitted that he forecasted weather or
something
like that. Then SA board could have also suppresed the thing for 2
years.

You wish.

The diff between W&W being done is that when this all come up,
everyone here (Oz) said "that would be right, just like them to make a
bet" and got on with life.

Hanse on the other hand, well he flatly denied it and plus his
standing in society has let him down.

W/W actually told the ACB as soon as they returned to Australia in 1994 of
their encounter with the bookie. It was the ACBs fault that they kept it to
themselves. It was never denied blunty as Cronje did just 24 hours before.

There is obviously more to come with this Cronje caper.

Very unlikely

Wrong Hansie gave them info on who he would be bowling and when to help the
betting.

Wrong again Waugh and Warne told the ACB as soon as they got home from the
tour, it was the ACB that "told" them to keep it quite and it wouldn't have
been as big as it was if the ACB didn't stuff it all up.

Yeh is that right, there are players that were named that are still playing
in the Pakistan side.

That's bullshit.

It's not even the same, why don't you READ up on what's happening and see
the HUGE difference.

I consider it unlikely for an Australian player at the current time.
Either there will have to be much higher payments or there will need to
be players who are touring a lot without a state or ACB contract, which
I don't see happening.

Yes, and an investigation has been conducted which backed up their
claims.

To the best of my knowledge Warne and M.Waugh reported the incident to
the ACB without ever having denied that it had occured. The ACB decided
that it was an internal matter and not to release the information to
the public.
The ACB deserves to be criticised there, not Warne and M.Waugh.

Care to mention what has happened to Pakistani players who've been
found guilty of match fixing by the Pakistani investigation?

At the time when the M.Waugh and Warne confessed to what they'd done
there was no real information showing how big an issue the matter was.
At that stage the ICC couldn't do anything and the ACB judged the
matter was not as serious as it appeared when the information became
public.

I believe that it's far too late to ban Warne and Mark Waugh, nor do I
feel it would be completely justified with them having come forwards
and admitted their error to the ACB. The situation was different 6 or 7
years ago when they made their mistake and it would be somewhat harsh
to judge them on the situation now.

If a player from any country did the same now then I would support a
ban, whether life or 3 years or whatever is something that needs to be
determined _before_ catching somebody.

Also, it's one thing not owning up and taking the money,
but it is an entirely different matter to lie when (presumably)
asked a direct question. Because W & W owned up when
asked, then it makes any further denials credible.

For Cronje, the question is is he lying now ?

Gilchrist. The reason why he drops all those catches becomes
clear now.

Yes, which was stupid but _at_the_time_ it wasn't seen as that big an
issue. The players weren't the only ones who were naive and stupid in
that situation.

considering the publicity over match fixing and betting over the last 6
years or so then the case is somewhat different.

To draw an analogy  it was tragic if a pregnant woman was given
thalidimide (sp?) before the effects were known. It is criminally
negligent if it happens now.

Come on Alvey, don't give -BEN any excuses to use in Gilly's defence at a later

He knew from the experience of W & W that any involvement with
bookies is a minor offence, handled by a small fine.
