Reading some news of Indian electioneering prompted this post. Two cricketers who will be contesting are Chetan Chauhan(the nervous nonegarian),and the Nawab of Pataudi. That brought to mind some other cricketers who made forays into the blah blah blah... world.
Wesley Hall; Barbadian senator
Ted dEXter;THough he lost I guess.
Anybody out there willing to continue........,my memory bank has ben overdrawn.

Though a Barbadian, Sir Frank Worrell served in the Jamaican Senate
in the 1960s. Learie Constantine ended his life a member of the
House of Lords.

Wesley Hall is actually a member of the elected House of Representatives, although he WAS once a member of the (non-elected) senate.
How about Roy Fredricks, Minister of Sport in Guyana?
BTW, Hall is, as might be expected, responsible for the Sports Ministry, interalia.
It is not difficult to do that kind of thing - get involved - when you alreadyhave the name recognition, I guess.

Well is that so.

I had the mis(?)fortune to play juniors in a district cricket team in Adelaide
(it was in fact Adelaide District Cricket Club) for which Chetan Chauhan was
both playing and coaching (for a period of 2 years circa 1983,84 I think). I
vaguely remember an address to the club regarding conditions, for cricket, and
in general in India. I remember him saying how he would love to run for office
over there in the future in an attempt to try and change things.
Well it seems he has finally made good that promise and I wish him well.
It is perhaps surprising, given the high profile that cricketers hold in the
cricket playing countries of the world that more cricketers don't run for
office if they are that way inclined. (I can't think of any in Australia but
didn't Imran Kahn hold a position in Pakistan at one point in time??????)

Imran has never held a political office in Pakistan, and has
no intentions of doing so. However, he is very good friends with the
current Prime Minister (Nawaz Sharif), who is a lesser known former
first class cricketer (and in fact most of his voters do not know of
his cricketing prowes).

IK is currently involved with several humanitarian projects
like UNICEF, Cancer hospital, etc. So much so that cricket has been
place on a back-burner.
