Paul Allott is rubbish on Sky TV

It has come to my attention that Paul Allott is one of the worst
cricket commentators on TV. Along with Henry Blofeld of Test Match
Special, he seems to be the weak link of cricket commentators.

For a start, all he ever says is just a repeat of what others have
said before him. He always states the obvious and is hardly as
well known or respected as for example a Boycott.

If you agree with me, please e-mail me or post a message here.

I have never heard your commentator, but compared to South Africa's
own Trevor Quirk, he must be pretty good. Trevor has the undisputed
world title for worst commentator, nobody can take that from him.
Maybe you will be unfortunate enough to hear him when England tour
S.A. this year.

Allott isn't one of my favourites, but he strikes me as reasonably
competent. My bete noir is Bob Willis; just listening to his dreary
voice makes me depressed.

As for "Blowers", I think a programme that goes on as long as TMS needs
a mix of commentators of different styles, and I find that he makes a
good contrast to the more "serious" types. His return to TMS has at
least partially filled the void left by the death of Brian Johnston.

I've never heard Allott  on TV but I've heard quite a few people slag
him off recently. I didn't think he was _too_ bad on the radio and at least
he got Agnew corpsed again, by singing when he didn't realise his mic was
"live", shortly before Knight got injured in the 5th Test.
He's got some ground to cover if he's going to surpass
"Boring Bob", Mr. Catatonic Stupor himself.

But lay off Blowers please. The dear old thing does very well playing
the slightly nutty English gent role vacated by the late Brian Johnston. But
after Johnners, Test Match Special was never going to have quite the same
again.
