Batsmen's pitches. A very large number of non-Indian batsmen (and
non-batsmen, too) have scored their highest Test scores (and sometimes
their highest first-class scores) in India (anybody want to make a
prediction about Lara?). Not to mention the huge scores of 700/6 type that
kept running up in the Ranji matches in the same period.  The present
pitches are somewhat more `sporting'. BTW, I have removed
soc.culture.pakistan from the Newsgroups: line -- I am sure all Pakistanis
on the net who want to follow cricket also follow RSC.

ObCric: First-class teams with colourful names are rather rare. Two names I
found colourful (even though the reality wasn't amusing) were the Bengal
Cyclone XI and the Bijapur Famine XI, which played a high-scoring match
against each other in the 1940's.
