Sachin Tendulkar targets 15000 runs

Post by Don speaks the trut » Tue, 11 Aug 2009 18:18:53

Sachin Tendulkar in a recent interview to Wisden said that he is
tageting 15000 runs in Test Cricket. That will require 40 innings or
so from now on(assuming an average of around 55) which is roughly
equivalent to 25 more tests. So suffice it to say, Sachin is going to
play beyond 2011 WC and retire from Test cricket in 2013. This will
also help him achieve 100 international hundreds for sure.

Tendulkar has a shot at the hundred hundreds but needs to cut out all those
90s.  In the time taken to reach his most recent 15 centuries he was also
dismissed in the 90s on eleven occasions.

I am sure a few measly 90's will go a long way to the 15,000 he has
targeted.

The difference between a 90 and a hundred run knock is largely
academic, as attested to by Don Bradman's average.

But not the 100 100s ...

What happened yesterday may not happen tomorrow and vice
versa...cricket is a game of glorious uncertainities...haven't we
heard of this oft repeated quote? For all you know, Sachin may get a
serious injury tomorrow and may decide to cut short his career, God
forbid.

Statistically speaking though, in 40 test innings from now on coupled
with around 25-30 ODIs he plays from now including WC 2011, he has a
shot at 17 hundreds from 65-70 innings overall...which is one hundred
in around 4 innings...which seems fairly possible....given Sachin
seems to have come back to some sort of  form after getting rid of all
the inertia of his elbow injury completely during the latter half of
2008....

In that case, since Tendulkar has precisely 95 95s, he already
has 100 100s.

Only two of those eleven 90s were in Tests...
