India is now second in the ICC Test rankings, replacing England

With this win in Ahmedabad, India is now second in the ICC Test rankings,
replacing England

For India to be top of the rankings,
(a) IND must beat PAK in PAK
(b) IND must beat ENG
(c) AUS must lose to SAF

Tough ask ...

On the flip side, if IND loses to both PAK and ENG, it will slide down to
No. 4

What was India's rank / points before Dravid / Chappell took over?

4, Dravid/Chappell moved it to 3, Sehwag/Chappell moved it to 2. :-)

Similar data on the OD rankings? The change since D&C took over?

Well Chappell was appointed in late May 2005

India were on 107 ranking points at the end of May 2005

England were 110 and Australia were 132

Highly unlikely.

Quite possible

Unlikely in Aust
Possible in RSA.

This would be closer to reality than 1.

You were dying to write that...

It is indeed a tough ask. Now that we know Australia didn't lose the first
Test against South Africa, we also know that for India to go top in the
manner you describe would require 3-0 clean-sweep series wins against
Pakistan and England, and for Australia to lose both of the remaining Tests
against South Africa at home.  Tough ask is one way of putting it.

India has risen from 7th to 5th in the odo rankings.  However apart from
Australia way out in front, the rankings from two to seven are much too
volatile to get e***d about.

It's a little too early to attribute much to Chappell.  He may be achieving
great things, but as yet that adds up to beating a club team in Zimbabwe and
brushing aside a Sri Lankan team who are dismal away from home (apart from
when they play in Pakistan, for some reason).

Lets just hope that India do not follow England's path and lose both
the test series and the one dayers to Pakistan. England went as the no.
2 team in tests and leave as the no. 3 team. India may very well leave
as the no. 3 test team as well. However, they could then bounce back
and beat England in India and probably regain the no. 2 test ranking.

If things go badly in Pakistan for India they could fall back to 4th!
