Australian Selector Caught In Compromising Position With His Sister

At least that's the only way I can understand Brad Young's continued grace
with Australian (including Australia A) representative teams.

You can forgive me for wondering how he gets a game when his ODI bowling
average is 251.00 and even his MMC average is aroung 45.

Can South Australia even be justified selecting him?

Sorry I'm ranting again.

G'night all

It's because Brad Young is the only promising young-ish spinner around at
the moment. He definitely has potential - as an all-rounder, too - but I
think the selectors would be better off grooming him for Test cricket,
instead of possibly ruining his technique in ODIs when he's not an
established player yet. If he keeps improving then he's definitely a Test
candidate at some stage.

The truth of Youngs continued selection is that he's related to one of
the most powerful figures in Australian cricket. Brendon Julian.

I think that it's a little simplistic to look solely at the average.
Remember that Pat Symcox had an even higher average than that, yet South
Africa sorely missed him at the World Cup.  Indeed, he was often rated
among the top off spinners in the world.

A lot of people from State level have lowish averages but get picked anyway
and do well, and a lot with high averages don't get picked.  I think that
Brad Young, despite the figures (which aren't terrible) has quite a lot of
potential, and with top class coaching that could be developed more.  I
also think that the art of orthodox left arm slow bowling has fallen away
recently, and people sometimes have trouble playing a good one - eg Phil
Tufnell (who also has an average in excess of 35).  His batting certainly
could be useful in the lower order.

????? Symcox's ODI bowling average was 38.36, according to CricInfo.
