Opened the innings and is carrying on the fight with only feeble
support at the other end. The second highest score in the SA innings
so far has been de Villiers' 27.

What an innings from Smith. He stayed till the end, refused to run
away, and saw his team through. Congrats SA.

Fortunate for SA he's not a 'walker' otherwise he'd have left on
85! ;)

Boucher deserves huge credit too - he was the last bastion before the
tail and came to the fore when the pressure was the greatest, as
usual.  Couldn't have asked for anyone better in world cricket to come
in and finish the job when AB was dismissed.

Absolutely. When Colly caught De Villiers out it was anyone's game.
One more reasonably quick wicket (either one, preferably Smith's) and
the tail is exposed with England probably taking it. Men of lesser
nerve and grit (and even not quite as lucky) than Smith and Boucher
might have stumbled. But it wasn't to be and they did a superb job of
patiently and systematically getting the runs. No stupid flamboyant
attempts to get on with it, just tick the scoreboard over, punish the
bad balls, and then take the extra half-hour to drive the knife in.
It was very well done by Smith and Boucher.
