Indian team - winning ways

I am extremely surprised at the Indian teams success lately.

Azhar has paid back all the criticism he received for failure.

But I recall Pataudi's prediction "chickens become tigers at home"

I really wonder who will win the world cup

cos India always runs out of luck when necessary

Pataudi, I am sure must be having quite a meal of his own

figure of sppech MAK! Wonder if tiger himself ever chcikened
out. I know, I know. He scored a gallant one-eye master innings
and tiger-hearted wins over Lloyds Windies etc. etc.,

Wonder why Pataudi does not look at the Indian team's record in
his era. It was then that the team was chicken-like.

Does anyone recall Pataudi ever praising the Indian team when
it did reasonable well.

Yes. And before you trash Pataudi, why don't you find out what he actually
said? I haven't heard him trashing the current Indian team.

Very true. Couldn't agree with you more. Poor Pataudi. Little does he
relaise that the present team is playing some of the greatest teams in
cricketing history. Look at Zimbabwe, have we seen a finer outfit ? No
Sireee. And then there is Sri Lanka ! What an incredible team ! And
while we are at it, there was the English side. An engine of
destruction that could batter the greatest teams and destroy
reputations. The sight of a Defreietas starting his run up or a Fraser
in full stride, I tremble in my shoes - fear rises in me when I think
of these great players. The guile of Eddie hemmings and the craft of
Phil edmonds and that paragon of bowling consistency Shane Warne
...sigh Pataudi never really got to see the greatest players in
action.

Just think of what he faced. Some Obscure team from the carribean led
by that mediocre player - whats his name Sir Garfield Sobers something
/ And what was the name of the English batsman again ? Some Peter May
and those bowlers of his time Freddie Truman and Frank Tyson.
Australia was also had some non-entites ian Chappel, Graham Mckenzie,
Doug Walters, Ian redpath - not a patch on moody, paul riffel, marsh
and boon of course. Then there was that absolutely third rate team
from WI, under LLoyd that we lost to 3-2 in 74. A bunch of no hopers
Viv Richards, Alvin Kallicharan (a left hander who was not in the
class of Arjuna Ranatunga), Clive Lloyd, Andy roberts (what is this
man before ravi Rutnanayake or one of those fearsome NZ pace bowlers),
Roy fredricks (not hald as good those Zimbabwe openers) Bernard Julien
(Danny morrison bowled yards faster than this guy).

Pataudi really had it so good. Wish Pataudi would realize this
essential truth and not make these exagerated claims. Chickens indeed,
Indian team a 11 of ferociously untamed predators who have quelled Sri
Lanka, Zimbabwe, England, NZ ...oops nearly quelled NZ !

ravi (who doesn't understand why SMG thinks that Tiger Pataudi is the
shrewdest observer of the game in India)
