WC, 2nd semifinal, SA v Eng, Mar 22, SA after 43 overs

SA won the toss, and sent England in to bat.  When the innings ended
after 45 overs when the time limit was reached, England had made
6/252, leaving South Africa 45 overs to make 253 to win.

22 needed from 13 balls when rain interrupted play.

After 42.5:             6/231   (McMillan 20, Richardson 13, Extras 21)

Covers coming off now, apparently one over removed from the SA innings,
so now just one over and one ball left, target will be unchanged,
so now 22 to get in 7 balls.

Now apparently changed to just one ball remaining, target will still
be unchanged.  22 needed from one ball.

Lots of discussion, game could have been finished if everyone wasn't
talking quite so much...

Lewis walks in, single to mid wicket for McMillan.

After 43:               6/232   (McMillan 21, Richardson 13, Extras 21)

Still a few minutes left before 22:15, but apparently those are the rules.

=       McMillan                not out          21             21 balls
=       Richardson              not out          13             10 balls
=                       Extras                   21     (17lb 4w)
=       Overs 43:                       6/      232

=                        O M W  R       N W
=       Botham          10 0 1 52       0 3
=       Lewis            5 0 0 39       0 0
=       DeFreitas        8 1 1 28       0 1
=       Illingworth     10 1 2 46       0 0
=       Small           10 1 2 52       0 0

=       Win to England on run rate (by 20 runs).

what a gyp! surely there is no justification for retaining this ridiculous rain
rule. whatever chance of victory that SA had was taken away by the rain. would
it have bust the WC committee's balls to let play go on for 10 minutes more.
sheesh! what a RIPOFF!!
