Graeme Hick's first class career figures, up to and including the 2nd test
vs. Australia, are as follows:

MATCHES    INN    NO    HS     RUNS     AVG     100s
    -------    ---    --   ----   ------  -------   ----
      240      388    43   405*    20100   58.26     70

other statistics, which do not include the 7 matches he's played this season,

  Catches: 280     Bowling: runs- 5890 wkts- 151 avg- 39.00 best- 5/37 5WI- 4

Pretty impressive batting totals, especially an average of 58 over a period of
nearly ten years, even taking into account the way he's struggled at times
since coming into the England side. In fact, his average at the end of the 1990
season (which is when his "troubles" began) was over 64, so you can see he's
come down significantly. After all, averages don't change much over a long
period of time - to put things in perspective, Hick could have 55 consecutive
ducks now and still have a career average over 50!
