Ranji Trophy Finals - Day 4

Ranji Trophy Finals - Day 4

Surprise! The match is poised for a keen finish today, after a day of major
swings in momentum on the part of both sides.

Haryana sprang a big surprise on Bombay, bowling them out for 410.  The
action started with the second ball of the day, with Tendulkar playing
across and being trapped leg before by Chetan. Kapil then chipped with
three crucial wickets to have Bombay reeling at 341/8.  Pandit and Ankola
stemmed the tide for a while, taking the score to 408 before Ankola had a
rush of *** to his head and was caught behind attempting a wild heave,
and the innings was quickly over, with Pandit remaining unbeated 40.

Unfortunately for Haryana, their joy at their first innings lead of 112 was
very short-lived indeed, as the Bombay bowlers struck right back, reducing
them to 159/8 at close. The bowling honours were shared evenly among the
Bombay bowlers, with each bowler capturing 1 or 2 wickets (including
Hattangadi, who made up for his batting failure with two cheap wickets at
the end of the day, including almost-centurion Chetan Sharma in the last
over).  Bombay did had a few anxious moments when Kapil threatened to pull
off a rescue attempt (he scored 41 runs), but they managed to trigger
another mini-collapse at the end of the day.  The e***ment was too much
for many on the field: Rajesh Puri was given out off a one-bounce catch,
and Pandit was so e***d at seeing Chetan accidentally nick a ball towards
his own stumps that he overreached and fell on top of the stumps and the
batsman.

Anyway, with one day's play left, and a 47-run lead with 2 wickets in hand,
things look bad for Haryana.  One wonders whether their bowlers will get as
much help from the pitch as Bombay's did today.
