Why do people ask who England should drop to make
way for Thorpe?
How about simply adding Thorpe as a sixth batsman.
It is comparitavely easy to score runs against
New Zealand (with neither Morrison or Pringle)
but they could still be in trouble against more talented
attacks.
Drop the all-rounder, let Hick bowl more, play four
bowlers, demonstrate a bit of confidence and hey presto.

Illingworth believes:

1. A Test team needs 5 bowlers, 4 is insufficient.
2. Hick does not get enough bowling for Worcestershire to have
developed into a true Test-class bowler.

And at the moment Illingworth gets his way.
