Best bowling figures for Warwickshire

In light of Shaun Pollock's auspicious debut for Warwickshire, and the
excellent record of his compatriot and predecssor Alan Donald, it's
topical to ask this question.

Who has the best innings figures for Warwickshire in first class
cricket?

I'm sure a lot of you know the answer to this, but I'll bet that
there'll be a few of us who'll be surprised as well.

Blimey! For a while I thought the whole world was ignoring me. Thanks,
Aslam.

Yes, folks! It's one J.D.Bannister, better known to cricket
aficionados as Jack Bannister, commentator extraordinaire.

I'm always surpised (smugly so <-:) at the number of people in SA -
where Bannister is regarded as the voice of cricket -  who don't know
this. And I'm amazed that neither Willis nor Donald appear in the
list.

Regards to all

Well, to take all ten is always a bit of a fluke, which is going to
depend to some extent on the bad luck or incompetence of the other
bowlers in the team. The feat seems to have become increasing rare over
the last 30 to 40 years, perhaps because bowlers tend not to bowl such
long spells nowadays.

More likely due to a combination of covered wickets and less first-class
matches.

I'm not sure how much of an impact this would have. After all, a rain-
affected pitch should help more than just the one bowler in a team.

Certainly fewer in England, nowadays, though not by as large a factor as
the reduction in ten-fors. Looking worldwide, I'm not sure whether
there's been a reduction in the number of first-class matches.

And 40 years ago this summer, Tony Lock bowled more overs than Jim
Laker (69 vs. 68) to capture his sole wicket at Old Trafford; Lock
bowled 55 overs to Laker's 51.2 in the long 2nd innings.
But no luck.

Bob Dubery tossed up a gentle one:

He took 10-41 v Combined Services at Edgbaston in 1959, and is, [roll of
drums, fanfares] Jack Bannister!!! [wild cheering quickly fades to
mutterings of "Oh no, surely not that boring git"]

And now he is trying for a more prestigious statistic:
Author/co-author/ghost-writer of the Greatest Number of Boring Books
About Cricket published in a calendar year.
