TENDULKAR BANNED FOR LIFE?

This confirms steve waugh to be the greatest cricketere currently playing
the game, after the cricket world is rocked with sachin tendulkar caught
illegally tampering with the ball.

I call for him to be banned for life, rather than simply a one match
suspended sentance.

Tendulkar guilty of ball tampering: report

AP - Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar has reportedly been found guilty
of ball tampering.

Tendulkar was filmed running his fingernails through the seam of the ball
while bowling in the second Test between India and South Africa.

Match referee Mike Denness of England found Tendulkar guilty after viewing
tapes of the incident, the South African Press Association said, quoting
unnamed sources close to the Indian cricket team.

Tendulkar was banned for one Test match, but the sentence was suspended
until the end of the year, the news agency said. He was also fined 75 per
cent of his match fee.

Denness was due to officially announce his findings on Tuesday morning.

Denness also disciplined five other Indian players, including skipper
Saurav Ganguly, the SAPA report said.

Ganguly was reportedly banned for one Test match and two one-day
internationals until the end of the year for not controlling his players on
the field. This sentence was also suspended until the end of the year.

Virender Sehwag was banned for one Test match and will miss the last game of
the three-match series in Pretoria after he was found guilty of excessive
appealing. He was also fined 75 percent of his match fee.

Opening batsman Shiv Sunder Das, wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta and spinning ace
Harbhajan Singh all received suspended sentences of one Test match until the
end of the year and were also fined 75 percent of their match fee for
excessive appealing, SAPA said.

Rain restricted play on the fourth day of the Test to just 25 overs. Chasing
395 runs to win, India ended the day 1-28.

I saw the incident several times and I thought it was pretty blatant. Fines
don't work, so that is nothing really. The suspension was not overly harsh
but should be applied to everyone caught to ensure there is consistency.
Maybe the ICC is going to head that way.

PLEASE tell me the "consistency" in fining Indian players for excessive
appealing while exonerating South African players of the very same
behaviour, except consistent inconsistency.

I can understand your FEAR.
A ban on Tendulkar will certainy help the Aussie bowlers.
I don't think they have ever slept in peace before a match against India.

Its great, u have thought of improving the statistics of ur "Aggressive"
Aussie bowlers by asking the most "Feared" batsman to be banned

For your information, the ball was examined after the match and ABSOLUTELY
NO signs of seam lifting were found on it by the umpires on the field.

BTW, do you know that if Steve Waugh gets fined for failing to control his
team on the field he will soon go bankrupt..

Good thing it wasn't for excessive appealing then, hey?

Show that the South Africans displayed "the very same behaviour"

Read the relevant posts here. 100's of them if you bother to do that. Or
read the newspapers over the past few days. First, take your rose coloured
glasses off though Hamish and keep an open mind on what you are reading
instead of pre judging it.

'course they did.  SLarry and the Indian fans think they did, so what the
international match referee thinks is entirely beside the point.

Better and better SLarry.

It's good to know you'd rather trust in the opinion of the fans you agree
with than the umpires.  But we already knew that, didn't we.

One point though, did you also note that there were rather a lot of people
who thought that the acts were *not* similar?

Of course not.  They're just biased supporters.  Not at all like the
unbiased and fair minded people who agree with you.

Moby.

"The very same behaviour" does not mena
- Pollock a long appeal before the umpire makes a decision <>
fieldsman charging towards the umpire
- bowlings saying something to opposition players is not "the very
same behaviour" as a player swearing after an appeal is turned down..

But they are comparable. The fact that the nature of the behaviour
is different is due to the strengths of the different teams attacks.

Why bother ?

They're hardly likely to be "similar",because RSA don't have a
working spin attack at the moment. When you have pace bowling
to slips the whole "feel" of the game is different to spinners bowling
to a close in field.

That has always involved a lot of appealing and jumping up and
down etc.

So you can't compare the two ; trying to compare Pollocks abuse/
appeals to Sehwag's war dance is difficult ; it's a degree issue.
