What is the use, if that cannot get their team a victory ?

I think Shoaib should learn to bowl within limits, parti-
cularly on track that offer little assistance to fast
bowlers.  The great Richard Hadlee was a tearaway early on.
Later, he cut down his pace and relied more on swing and
     cut.  The same with Lillee.

That wasnt the 2nd fastest ball ever recorded

When Shoaib was in Australia earlier this year...Brett Lee clocked 2 balls
at 155.8  and i think another one at 155.5.  Shoaibs quickest here was 155.3
as well

Yeah.. that's right.. Thommo only ever bowled the *one* ball at
159km/hr... no really.

OK, now read the post again: SECOND fastest ball ever RECORDED. I didn't say
Thompson/Lee/Akhter have never bowled any faster, they most probably have
when they were not being timed. Secondly the above statement was made by Ian
Chappell during the match and it came up on the screen too. So its official.

Yeah.. Ian Chappel saying something makes it "official".
To not make too fine a point on it.. he's wrong.
It might have been the second fastest ball ever recorded from a bowler not
named Jeff Thompson, but Thommo bowled more than one ball in *his*
recorded spell and at least 2 of them other than the "fastest" were faster
than Aktar's effort.

I haven't even started on the reasons why it should only be recognised as
"fastest" by a test cricketer.. since fast bowling competitions regularly
reach into the very high 150's.. even if the ball only makes the pitch
irregularly.

Lee may get to 155 +, but is his arm straight all the way through his action..??

He needs to get back to that technique again, it wasn't yesterday...

More to the point, does the measuring device have any more statistical
validity than picking numbers from a bag of bingo balls ?

Cite which ball.  I watched the whole day and watch the bowlers arm carefully.  He bends
the wrist a fair bit but then that is allowed.  His elbow remained constant all day.

Thommo's 160 is a good suburban myth. The measurement used was totally
unacceptable.
We will nevr know how fast Thommo really was - he may in fact have bowled
even quicker than the legendary 160.But stop using that mythology.

Maybe so, but he's the quickest bowler I've seen in 30 years.
