Gilchrist's pure brilliance

Post by -BEN » Sun, 16 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I have lost all the posts regarding Gilchrist the Great, & all the other
threads too.  I wanted to say a couple of things I remembered reading.

To Mike Holmans, NEVER EVER did I say I considered Gilly's keeping to be
"just above adequate" (or whatever you claimed I said), I said, that in
98, his keeping was slightly better to spinners than Gilly's was at the
time.  That is it.  Come the Windies your Healy had obviously lost the
plot with the bat, which was indicitive of his play in general,
especially when he didn't make any 1% chances 10% chances, like some
other keepers do.

To Mad Hamish, while you consider your posts to anyone not putting down
Gilly to be somehow necessary, I consider them to be flaming nuicances
that go over the top.

To Alvey, you wanted to know when you said you hoped Gilly got out, &
that you weren't really a Queenslander.  Well it was around Feb or
March, when we were in the Windies.  Go look it up on Deja news if you
want the context it was said in, I can't remember the thread names it
was in.

I did. There was absolutely *nothing* posted by Alvey in between 1 Feb, 1999
and 1 June, 1999 saying he hoped Gilchrist got out.

As for denying being a Queenslander, I did find this:

"Also, I seriously lost interest about a thousand posts ago when the best
response you could come
back with to my Shield stats showing Gilc had the worst byes record in the
land was something like "you
come from Qld, so you don't count" (Incidentally, that's something else you
have wrong)."

But I think that is a reference to you being wrong about Queenslanders not
counting, especially since at that time Alvey signed his messages off with
"Alvey, in Brisbane..."

It happened at some time.  Maybe reading 300 posts all at once tireded
your eyes or something, but it was after a failure in a Windies ODI
where Alvey posted that he was hoping (or was it 'glad'? I can't
remember) Gilly would get out.

I don't think so at all, if this is all there was.  Many people live in
different states to where they're from.  Mic Cullen lives in WA, &
although he's starting to turn into a sandgroper, he isn't from here.
And Westie lives in Victoria, but he's a Queenslander.

Is anyone sick of these debates yet?

The debate that should be talked about is M Waugh and who is likely
to replace him.

So lets get on with it please.

Can someone post Hayden's stats along with Blewett.
I watched Langers ton today. Another brilliant innings.
I heard on the radio that he's scored about 600+ in the last
15 days or something. This inclused the knock in club
cricket. Langer has scored 4 tons in his last 5 knocks.

Today Langer scored a ton off just 101 balls including
15 x 4's, 1x6.

Langer's 50 came off 36 balls including 11 boundries.
He's in super form. Hell I'd put him in there to replace
M Waugh now.

SA 330 all out.

Western Australia 1st innings
ME Hussey             not out   111
+RJ Campbell          c Blewett          b Wilson      32
*JL Langer            c Manou            b Johnson            120
MJ Nicholson          lbw                b Johnson              0
SM Katich             c Blewett          b Wilson               2
BA Williams           not out                                  16
Extras                (lb 5, w 1, nb 4)                        10
Total                 (4 wickets, 62 overs, 257 mins)         291

WA scored at about 4.6 an over.

Revolutionary version of onus of proof you have. You make the claims
but I have to prove them? hahahahaha.

Oh go and spoil my fun why don't you.
Simple pedantics; I am "in" Qld, but not "from" Qld.

Alvey.
ps. We really should be doing something more challenging with our time.

You're really falling apart now.
You've made two assertions in that para which are both incorrect by
light years. But I suppose it is a bit late in life for you to start
using facts. And it gets better! You then manage to ignore the bleedin'
obvious fact pointed out by that nice Qarnos chappie that someone who
sigs most of their posts with "In Brisbane" is pretty unlikely to deny
that they're not actually in Qld. Well played!

Hope you wiped the excess foam off the keyboard after this. Well
actually, I don't. With any luck it'll short out your PC. I'd like to
respond to this para but despite having read it twice, am still not
sure I understand it. To get really infantile; you said I was "from"
Qld, I said "wrong" (as in the State of Origin sense), never denied I
was "in" Qld. Got it?

btw, why does Gilclang keep taking the bails off when the batsman's
playing backfoot shots? Is he celebrating taking the ball or something?

btw #2: I care not if you respond or not but if you pull your usual
egomanic stroke of starting a new thread for no other reason than to
see your little name I shall taunt you a zecond time.

I think you misunderstand.  I can't get them, every so often my server
has some sort of upgrade (supposedly) & loses a days posts, or them all.
And in case you hadn't noticed, this post which you responded to was
actually answering the ones I remembered reading the day before.

Alvey, I don't care if you prove them or not.  I am remembering what
happened (as you do) & said so.  If you want to not believe me, I
couldn't care less.

As for saying you are not from Queensland, you have been asking for
'proof' of this for weeks, & yesterday you posted *agreeing* to it!
I'm sure there's some logic in that.  BTW we notice that you still
refuse to deny ever saying you hoped/were glad when Gilly failed.

You can be from Katmandu for all it matters, the fact is you're a true
blue Queenslander who follows them fanatically in every major sport.
But you perhaps thought you'd be taken more seriously about Healy if you
made out you weren't really a Queenslander?

BTW you've been asking for proof of my claim (that you once said you
weren't a Queenslander), then you are blatantly admitting it here, when
someone shows you the proof.  Why bother asking for proof then?  (It's
like me demanding proof of a claim that I once said I support WA in the
shield.)

calling a Qlder a "blue" is a great way to get a punch in the nose -

But that's where you're wrong.  You never denied you were in Queensland,
you denied you *are* a *Queenslander*.  When anyone on here can tell

I only start a new thread if I lose all the old ones.

BTW(#1), are you denying that you said you'd *hope* Gilly failed?

But he wasn't born there. I wasn't born in Yorkshire, so although I
grew up in the Broad Acres and know that they form God's Own County, I
wouldn't dare call myself a Yorkshireman.

To insist that Alvey start telling lies in order to confirm your
prejudices about him seems a little over the top, but then we're used
to that by now.

Cheers,

In what (precise) sense do they love them ?
