'WISDEN' EDITOR STEPS DOWN

London - The editor of the respected cricket almanac
'Wisden' is stepping down because he's tired of lamenting
the continuing failures of the English team. Matthew
Engel, editor since 1993, notes that, during this spell,
England has lost 11 test series, drawn two and won four -
two against New Zealand, one each against India and South
Africa.

"It's been a great honour to edit 'Wisden' and a
wonderful challenge," said Engel, who is taking a year
off and will be replaced by New Zealander Graeme Wright.
"But it's become very wearing, partly because of the
growing workload and partly because of having to cope
with and explain the continuing failures of English
cricket.
