Shaoib Akhtar 161 kph PCB media release

"There is a bit of controversy over a 161kph ball bowled by Shoaib Akhtar which
was clocked by the ground speed gun but the TV
company speed gun was not working.
He certainly was bowling fast and we simply do not have any
'official system', a media release has been issued by PCB that
also says he had bowled one at 161kph"

I just wanted to let people know who have followed this topic in the
newsgroup that our radar system (IDS Sports Australia) is not the
system being used for the current Pak v NZ series as described above.
Instead it is our South African competitors system. As previously
mentioned the fastest speed we have measured Akhtar at was in the 155
km/h range a couple of years ago.

I would be very interested to see what our system would clock him at
now. I find it hard to believe he is 5 km/h faster than he was a
couple of years ago.

It was the same system which measures Brett Lee 149-152 fastest, which, as u
know is not

To Warren of IDS

The system used in India to measure the new record is an untested system and
not the one by the South African company EDH Speedball, which has been in
operation for 6 years and has a certificate of accuracy from their National
Standards Authority.

We are entering dangerous territory if we allow any untested system to claim
World Records.

Be that as it may congratulations to SA for the record.

I wanted to make a public apology to our South African competitors,
EDH as I had incorrectly assumed that the above speed was recorded on
their system. In fact this was not the case as the 161 km/h was
recorded on another radar system supplied by a Pakistan company called
***Link.

It just gets worse and worse, was it a P.C.B Official who was operating the
"***link speed gun" maybe the same one who type upthe P.C.B Press Release.

So we can't even compare this with previously known speed figures, who knows
what method they used. Has anyone heard mention of why the usual speed radar
wasn't working? Was there some "Fat Potato type fellow blocking it perhaps"
;-)

One of the problems with deploying technology in the field of play. In
some circumstances it is neccesary to know that the equipment is
calibrated correctly before one can rely on what it purports to show.

Besides, why should bowling speed be more than something for fans to
talk about? Bowling FAST doesn't equate to bowling WELL.

Who's the slowest out of Lee, McGrath, Akthar and Ntini?

Now... who's the BEST out of those four?

That's a lie. PCB was not operating the radar.

Here is a fact that you might not be aware of. The radars were giving exactly
the same speed most of the time.

Another ball was reported 159.9 by TV radar while it was 160 by ***link link
radar. Almost exact.
