[English County Cricket] - Dave Hemp, changed county ?

Is the DL Hemp listed in the Warwickshire scorecard, posted earlier in
this group, the same D Hemp who played, although injured for most of
the season, for Glamorgan last season or a few seasons ago ?

Any reasons as to why he changed teams ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is the same Hemp.  Presumably he felt it would enhance his
career with a move to Warwickshire (like Nick Knight) but he hasn't
started the season too well!

Yes.

I don't know whether he moved of his own accord or if Glamorgan decided
he was surplus to their requirements. However, ISTR there is a Glamorgan
Web site, which might have the info.

Yep, same man. There were all kinds of reasons I suspect.

He had a decent England A tour a few years back and was touted as
another great prospect. Then his 1995 season fell to bits. He
regrouped for 1996 and was in form 1995-6, scored a ton against
University opposition in April 1996 and promptly broke ribs and
punctured a lung in a fielding collision with Huw Morris in the B&H
prelims. He was out for more than two months, had to be readmitted to
hospital and was out of sorts for the rest of the season. To cap it,
Adrian Dale the Glam all rounder refound form and fitness and was also
very happy in the no. 3 spot where Hemp specialised. I think the
bottom line is that a change of County was essential for his own
sanity. He may be afraid of "Ramprakash Syndrome" and want to stop the
rot before it's too late. The irony was that the first Championship
match of 1997 saw him up against Glamorgan, and Warks. didn't exactly
excel. I hope he finds his touch again cos he's very exciting when in
full flow.
