I don't care what anyone says even if WI beat Australia the Aussies will
still be World Champions their record is such that they have to be
acknowledged as No.1.  So Taylor has not beaten India, that doesn't matter.
No other team can boast record as good as Australia.  At present I think
that only Warne can effectively replace Taylor.  But I hope he goes on for
another year to achieve the clean sweep.

I hope Taylor takes one last year before retiring.  There is a good
reason for this.

The only side he has not beaten has been India.  It is bad enough our
sub-continental friends say Australia cannot be World Champions without
beaten them.  Their conceit has no bounds.  If Taylor were to wipe the floor
with India next year, it would make his captaincy record perhaps the most
well rounded in history.  How many captains would have won series against
seven different countries?  He already has the six scalps of England (three
times), The West Indies (twice), Pakistan (twice), Sri Lanka (once), South
Africa (twice) and New Zealand (once) under his belt.  Ignoring the narrow
margin of many of those series, this is still an incredible record for a
captaincy career of less than five years.

Some might say his record may be tarnished if he loses to the West
Indies.  Quite frankly, the Windies have never been more ripe for the
picking than they are now.  That doesn't mean they won't win the series -
just that they have never been more vulnerable.

The indecent haste to make Steve Waugh captain to replace the aging
patriarch of the team makes no sense.  Waugh is eight months younger than
Taylor.  Put in perspective, if Taylor were to retire now, by the start
Waugh's second series as captain, he will be the same age his predecessor
was when he left the game.

I always believe you pick the best man for the job, regardless of his age.

The three best candidates are the Waugh twins and Warne, everyone else is just
not a contender. Warne is the youngest of the three.

Steve Waugh has the runs on the board and even if he holds the job for 18
months, so what, then you bring in the next best candidate which be Warne and so
on.

Allan Border was only a year younger then Hughes when he took over. Lasted nine
years in the job during some trying times.

Taylor and Healy will go soon IMO, S.Waugh will probably be around for another
1-2 home series after that and M.Waugh probably survive the longest of the four
as he is not as injury prone as his twin.

A captain post Warne maybe difficult, but someone would have come on the scene
by then and cemented a spot.

Kind Regards,
