Don't think so. An incident like the one you mention did happen when Ken
Rutherford was given out to a catch behind. The whole Australian team appealed
except for Zoehrer who was still on the ground with his back to the umpire. The
first thing he did when he got up was to indicate that he had NOT caught the
ball cleanly and Rutherford was recalled. I heard that he was dropped because
of his behaviour in one of the Sharjaz (sp?) tournaments but I don't know what
he did. BTW the wicketkeeper who replaced him, Dyer, was not at all adverse to
claiming catches he dropped - ask Andrew Jones.

When Matthews was on his first tour of NZ there is a good photo of him claiming
a catch in a one-day match with his foot firmly planted on the boundary rope
and him looking down to see where his feet were. When he was asked he claimed
to be inside the rope.

I have heard several rumours about why Tim Zoehrer was dropped from the
Australian team including the fact that he was VERY verbal in the Ashes
series in Australia 1986/87. The most interesting rumour, though, was that
he slept with Bob Simpson's (the Aussie coach) daughter and Simmo wasn't
very happy about. This fits in with a lot of a stories I have heard about
Zoehrer.

But despite this, Tim Zoehrer is one of the best wicket-keepers in the
world. This is not just my opinion, but the opinion of many people I know
who have played Perth Pennant cricket, first class cricket and Test
cricket. It is amazing that probably the fourth best keeper in the country
(Healy) gets to play test cricket!

By the way it was Greg Dyer who lost his place in the Australian side for
trying to claiming a catch which had bounced first (He claimed he didn't
realise).
