Shocking revelation from Abdul Qadir about Javed Miandad. I'm sure
he's not popular as a coach right now, he must have rubbed many
players the wrong way. Read this interesting interview with legendary
leggie Abdul Qadir.

Lahore: Pakistan's legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir has a few
predictions.

"When Sachin Tendulkar was new to international cricket, I was the
first non-Indian to say that he would make it big. Now, I think Yuvraj
Singh and Irfan Pathan have a very bright future," said Qadir.

"Yuvraj is the young cricketer with a big heart and courage," he said.
"He is like V V S Laxman. Whenever the team is in deep trouble, these
cricketers have the potential to bail their side out.

"Irfan Pathan looks better than Wasim Akram because Akram did not have
batting skills early in his career. He (Pathan) looks a promising
all-round prospect for India."

Qadir, who mesmerised batsmen the world over in his playing days, said
the Pakistan players consider coach Javed Miandad as a dictator and
not an adviser. "Moin Khan at some point of time wanted to hit Miandad
for his repeated nagging words," revealed Qadir.

"During my playing days, it was Imran Khan who was coach, selector as
well as the skipper. But then, you cannot have another Imran Khan,
concluded Qadir.

Rmbr that Famous over by Qadir to Sachin?  Exhibition match in his
first tour  and Qadir taunted the kid to try hitting him if he can and
Cheeka was at the other end, as SRT jumped out to qadir and hit him
for sixes, 27 runs in a single over.

Srikkanth: That one day match at Peshawar the official match which
later became unofficial let me term it that way, we were chasing a
very high total and I was standing in the other crease when everybody
realised, or atleast I realised as a captain and one of your team
mates that you could really hit the bowling was when you went after
Qadir. Would you like to tell your personal views about that.
Sachin: Well actually...
Srikkanth: You hit the first two balls for sixes. I was about to walk
to you and tell you something and you just showed your hand and I
stood back. I thought what is this man going to do and the next ball
went for a sixer again.
Sachin: I distinctly remember when I went into bat we needed about 65
or 70 runs. Srikkanth: In about six or seven overs, right?
Sachin: In my first three balls I hit two sixes and one four off
Mushtaq Ahmed. So Abdul Qadir walks up to me and says, "If you have
guts, hit me."
Srikkanth: He told you that?
Sachin: He said that to me and I said, "You are a great bowler, how can
I hit you, I won't be able to hit you." And the next over when he came
on to bowl there were only couple of overs left and we needed forty
runs so I took 27 runs I think in the second last over and that is
when the contest became really tight and very interesting as nobody
expected me to score 27 runs in the second last over and somehow we
lost the game in the last ball. We needed four runs to win and could
not manage that.

I wonder how Moin reacted to that last over frantic signals from
Miandad from the pavilion!
