SKY tv coverage

Hi folks

I'm one of the minority of viewers with a satellite dish so I've been able
to watch the coverage live from the WI. The coverage is OK, the commentators
know what they are talking about, Gower is quite good. Its not quite as good
as the Beeb coverage though, the adverts at the end of every over are intrusive
and I was horrified to see the "duck" appear on the screen when Simmons got
out in the ODI, that should go back to Australia where it belongs.

I understand that Neil Kinnock (the man who won the last election for John
Major :-)) has been complaining that the BBC should be showing the cricket.
Well I suppose he has a point but before Sky came along the BBC never showed
any cricket from the WI, similarly on last years india tour they showed
tests from india which the BBC had never done. On the last tour in 1990 Sky
showed the tests live and the BBC showe highlights in the evening, maybe they
should be doing the same this time.

The way england played yesterday I think the non-Sky viewers are the fortunate
ones :-)

I'd agree with Tony that the Sky coverage this time round has been much better.
I've been able to see live cricket in the pub and in college.  Bob Willis has
improved over his early commentating disasters and Gower is also good.  It
was especially refreshing to see him asking Gooch about his non-selection and
possible performances out there (Gooch recently recommended that Gower should
have been selected!)

However, I would like the BBC to keep the cricket in summer.  Usually, when
interuuptions occur, the cricket coverage is switched to BBC2, so that most
of the day is shown.  During Wimbledon, it is common to have tennis on BBC1
and cricket on BBC2.  The Sky camera-work is appalling.  The first replay
of a wicket falling is usually at such an angle that you can't tell what
happened - lbw's from square leg.

Sky have brought us overseas tours that we would never have seen otherwise,
but BBC do a very good job in summer for the home series.  Keep it like it
is.  Both companies have a roll to play.  Unjustified slagging is not going
to help matters.

Richard.

My own personal gripe (ads between overs already mentioned) is the fact that when a batsman gets out SKY immediately take a break.  Not life threatening but how many people have looked away for THAT BALL and then you can't see a replay for another 5-10 minutes, as when they come back they continue with the over and then there's a break etc..  The replay is stuck in when there's a gap in the bowling of an over..
