England 1st innings - 205 all out.
England 2nd innings - 237 for 3 at close of play.
The 4th day (Sunday, there is no rest day) was a much improved performance
by England, although there is still a long way to go to save the game.
The last wicket pair added 12 to the overnight score [5% of their target,
8-)] and (more importantly) resisted for 26 minutes. So England followed
on almost exactly 24 hours after their Saturday innings.
Gooch again went relatively cheaply but Atherton played carefully and
was unluckily run out for 99 (on 97, he hit a firm shot to the square leg
boundary. Atherton and Gatting ran 2 as Hughes raced round from behind of
square leg to gather the ball. As he picked it up the batsmen started their
3rd run, Gatting then called 'no' and Atherton slipped and fell while
turning, 5 yards out of his ground.) Gatting accumulated runs at a very slow
pace but defended well for 58 no at the close.
