The split: Who will win in Asia vs The rest

All this talk of Dalmiya trying and splitting world cricket (if true)
is certainly showing just how destructive this mans (and others)
actions can be to cricket.

Anyway even if the split happens the rest of the world will be hurt but
cricket will go on.

On a lighter note lets form a team of the Asians and the rest of the
world.

Saeed Anwar                      Adam Gilchrist
Sachin Tendulkar                 Gary Kirsten
Inzaman Ul Haq                   Kallis
Youhanna                         Michael Bevan
Dravid                           Steve Waugh
Moin Khan                        Lance Klusener
Abdur Razzaq                     Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram                      Shane Warne
Saqlain Mushtaq                  Allan Donald
Anil Kumble                      Glen Mcgrath
Waqar Younis                     Ricky Ponting (would come in at no.3 or
                                 no. 4)

Yes its actually India/Pak vs SA/Aus

Who would win.

Cheers

Who gives a toss?  As usual, you have selected teams for a ONE DAY
MATCH.

Here are my teams for Asia v The Rest over 5 days on an optimal pitch.
The Rest would win.

ASIA                    THE REST

Saeed Anwar             Michael Slater
Marvan Attapatu         Gary Kirsten
Sachin Tendulkar        Justin Langer
Inzamam-ul-Haq          Brian Lara
Yousuf Youhana          Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Moin Khan (wk)          Stephen Waugh
Abdur Razzaq            Chris Cairns
Wasim Akram             Shane Warne
Anil Kumble             Brett Lee
Saqlain Mushtaq         Alan Donald
Waqar Younis            Courtney Walsh

The bowling department for The Rest is an incredibly difficult choice -
McGrath, Streak, Ambrose, Pollock, Vettori all miss out.  Slater gets
the nod because you wouldn't play Athers and Kirsten in the same team.
Gilly is preferred to Stewart because the batting has such strength that
Stewart's solidity is less called-for than Gilchrist's dash.

Yes, friends, I *did* select SRT and BCL.  If you flame me now, it
proves that I am on a hiding to nothing.

And you don't even mention Gough or Caddick.

Caddick and Gough are, in my view, worth mentioning in the same
bracket as Wasim, Walsh, McGrath, Donald and so on. I am not saying
that they are *better* than that lot, or even necessarily *quite* as
good, but that they are to be considered at that level, rather than as
leaders in a best-of-the-rest competition.

And fair enough, too.

The split: Who will win in Asia vs The rest

Good question. I don't see much cricket outside of Australia, but
Mushtaq got hammered in Australia last year (i think - i can't find the
statistics, but then again, every Pakistan bowler got hammered so I
can't be too far wrong).

Saqlain, you mean.  His Test figures on that tour were

 O      M      R      W    Avg    Econ
94.5  24     251    10     25.1     2.66

Pretty good as an aggregate, but not so good when you consider that there's a
return of 6-46 hidden in there.

I'd have preferred Murali, too.

Jeff
