Here's something of interest, though I think it unlikely Warne will sit
out the Ashes for RSA domestic cricket.

R10m to tempt Shane to play in SA

The world's most celebrated and controversial spin bowler, Shane Warne,
has been offered at least R10-million to play provincial cricket in
South Africa for the next two years.

A Joburg-based private investment company is willing to front the money
for the legendary Australian cricketer to see out his playing career in
this country, and Warne is apparently "very interested" in taking up
offer at the start of the next South African domestic season, starting
in October.

Should he put pen to paper, Warne would miss the Ashes series against
England starting Down Under in November.

The man at the forefront of negotiations is Brett Levy, the deputy
chairman of Blue Label Investments, a private equities company.

"We've discussed it with him for a long time, but in the last month or
so they were very interested," Levy told Saturday Star on Friday. Levy
added that they were hoping to put the "deal to bed in the next two to
three weeks".

The numbers involved are astronomical - Levy spoke of a "seven-digit
figure in pounds" - which could earn Warne at least R10-million over
two years.

"To get Shane Warne is one of the biggest things to happen in cricket
anywhere in the world," said Levy.

for that money maybe he just will and I wouldnt blame him. He has done a
fantastic job for Australia for many a year and deserves to get what he can
out of the game

It's "only" AU$2,237, 510 for 2 years.
I don't know what his cricket Australia contract is but it'd have to
be fairly hefty and not playing in the next ashes would probably cost
him some endor***ts (although he might pick more up in RSA)
It'd be against his current Australian contract and it would involve
him being away from his kids even more over the next couple of years.

I think it'd be more likely for him to accept it for 2007/2008 and
2008/2009 than for 2006/2007
(and I'm also very cautious about any news article published within a
couple of weeks of April First, ever since The Australian science and
technology section printed a story about an end to pi being discovered
on 6-April back in 92)

Warne choosing to be based in Jburg?

I can't see him taking this offer up.

don't know about the worlds most celebrated spin bowler but I can think of a
spin bowler a lot more controversial than him ( at least in cricketing
terms )

After the first day of first test against Bangladesh, I doubt if the
offer still stands...

Warne's analysis after Day 1 stands at

20 overs and 114 runs without a wicket....

That too against the weakest team in the whole wide world, who dont
deserve to be playing cricket and blah,blah,blah... Well, that's Shane
"Golden Balls" Warne for you..

I'm still betting on Aus to win by an innings.

Your right this one innings totally destroys all his achievements as a Test
cricketer. What a wonderful insight into, and knowledge of, the game of
cricket you have

This game may well end up like the Queensland victory in the Pura Cup final.

It does indeed, when you don't get a wicket against the minnows of the
game, and your contemporary and competitor gets three on the same
pitch.. You tend to question as to what the hell am I doing here...

Not to forget that you run away after not getting a wicket...

Let's forget about my insight into the game of test cricket, let's take
a look at your insight for a change. How about that mate? You dechuka,
now a little lechuka, what say :)

sorry you are replying to what comments?

You say because of one innings not yet completed that Warne is not a great
test bowler. Interesting, and as I said it says a lot about your insight and
knowledge of the game. You should communicate with one Ken Huggies you are
both at the same level;-  Trolls and stupid

For all practical reasons, the innings in question has finished for
Warne... Remember he retired yesterday with a sore shoulder... Or is it
that he sees a cahnce to mop up the tail that his shoulder will get
better immediately for second day...

and if indeed "Golden Balls" is the greatest bowler the world has ever
seen (As per some ball-shiners) then he HAS to perform, where others of
his ilk are already performing (McGill got three)... As to knowledge of
the game, well mate you might be surprised at the levels at which I can
stoop just so that you understand what I am talking about... :)
(I hope that you understand the last statement of mine, please take
some effort and try to see the sarcasm in it... thanks)

Well, Shane "Golden Balls" Warne refuses to come out and bowl today...
Seems like his shoulder needs some more firming up, for the next ashes,
I think...

I have to stoop to the levels of people I am trying to have a
conversation with., if it takes me to any level so be it. So long as
they understand. Some times it feels like a wasted effort, though..

I sincerely hope that you have SEEN the light in which the coments were
made. :) thank you very much.... ;)
