NZ last test wins against Aus, is this a record

Post by dechuck » Thu, 31 Mar 2005 09:18:20

I think ( don't laugh ) that Australia's last loss to NZ was in 1993 and
according to what I have read they will next meet for 3 years which will
make it 15 years between wins. I assume this is not a record between
countries, my question is what is the record for years between test wins
country vs. country?

Australia no wins against NZ between 1945/46 and 1973/74.

actually no games played between the Wellington test in 1946 and the
Melbourne test in 74 but I agree with you this is a big time between test
wins

And even more disgraceful that we didn't play any tests against our nearest
neighbour in this time.

It was a shame, which I suppose is what I was driving at.  NZ was deeply
uncompetitive at times during the 50s, but began to assemble a vaguely
useful side during the 1960s, filled with players who possessed a fighting
spirit which seems absent from the current lot.

There were of course some decent Australian second teams who toured NZ over
the years, containing many future Test players.

BTW, tomorrow is the 35th anniversary of Sam Trimble hitting 213 at the
Basin Reserve.

They werent good enough, and looking at them now, it should be even longer
before we play them again, they have been disgraceful all summer.  Get them
to play in the minor leagues with the Bangles and Zimmers for a while!

Ahhh 'Slammin Sammy'. A Qld legend and yet another victim of the NSV.
Sammy could never get The Nod because during his prime years Aust had
the established NSV pairings of Lawry'n'Simpson/Slackpole opening the
batting and openers specialised y'see. The idea of playing three openers
was only thought of when a certain Bargearse waddled along.

And in related news....former bright young thing Michael Clarke has
received an email of encouragement from Bargearse. The message was
believed to be; "Just keep going Bluebagger. I went through worse than
you and as soon as I got a score they made me Australian of the Year!"

Here is a list of countries whose consecutive Test wins against
another particular country came after an interval of at least 10 years.
The last day of the last win and the 1st day of the start of the next
Test resulting in the win are given. The South African period of
isolation is excluded. The sides without wins are listed first. The
results (wins-losses-draws) are at the end of lines. Qualification -
the sides played each more than 5 times during the period.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.  The date range given spans the time
between wins by *NZ* against WI, in between which there were six drawn
matches, not 0-2-4.  WI's gap against NZ was longer, running from 1969 until
1985, during which they drew ten and lost two matches.
