Ranji Trophy Quarter-Final Bengal v Hyderabad

Post by Aslam Siddiqu » Tue, 07 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Eight 'lbw' decisions in Bengal's second innings tied a record for most
such dismissals in a first-class innings, achieved twice before.

Oxford University (second innings) v Warwickshire, Oxford, 1980
Umpires - PB Wight and J Van Geloven

Sussex (firs innings) v Essex, Hove, 1992
Umpires - RC Tolchard and PB Wight (again!)

BTW Terry Alderman against Pakistan got 5 lbw's in one innings.
Don't know if anyone else has been able to do this?

Wasn't it the Test match in which Ijaz made a 100 in the last day
some time in late 80s ? Can someone post more details
on the match. I vaguely remember Pak lost that match on the
last day when it looked like the Test will end in a Draw.

I just classified the stats with Home and Away categories. This can give
the advantage of having the LBW's given in home pitches compared to
overseas. We will have to take the 'home' lbws with a pinch of salt.
This figure is more significant when the idea of neutral umpires was
still alien to test cricket.

M:: Almost all the spinners (except Tony lock) listed here are Right arm
leggies ... and leggies are the ones who are disadvantaged with the LBW
rule. Probably, they got their wickets mainly by googly (Hirwani, Qadir
and Mushie). Kumble probably with his top-spinner or flipper (what else
does he bowl)

Cheers,
M

Mmm interesting.
I wonder whats the most lbw's in a series.
T Alderman in 1989 got 19 lbw's out of his 40+
wickets against England. Alderman also got
another 40+ test wickets in 1981.

I wonder how many lbw's Alderman has got in his career
for Australia and what percentage of lbw's he has.

Nope, Terry Alderman is from WA so the matches in the Eastern States
classify as on enemy ground. <g>
