Does any one has a doubt about the greatness of above mantioned players?
Any way if you do have let me clear it thru some raw statistics.

   1) Sunny Gavaskar
      * Highest Run Maker (10400+) "Any one to beat it"
      * Maximum Centuries (34)     "Who volunteers to break this"
      * More than hundred catches in test "How many are around"
      * Maximum no of test matches played (not very sure)

   2) Kapil Dev
      * Highest Wicket Taker in One dayers (180)
      * Second Highest one day score in world cup (175 n.o.)
      * Third Highest one day score (only after 189 and ** by Richards)
      * Second Highest Wicket Taker in Test matches after Sir Hadlee (376)
      * Only the second player in the world to make 3500+ runs and take 350+
        wickets (after Ian Botham)

   3) Imran Khan
      * Second Highest Wicket Taker in one dayers (163)
      * Among the top 5 wicket takers in test matches
      * One of the greatest allrounders (with Kapil and Botham)
      * Ask the current pakistani team about his greatness (specially the
youngsters like W. Akram and W. Younis) " I can see the flames"

   4) Javed Miandad
      * One of those few (with Richards and Border) who seem to threaten
        Sunny's record (8000+ runs)
      * Among the top five run makers(with Gavaskar,Boycott,Richards and Border)
      * The only one in active cricketers whose test average never went
        below 50

I hope it clears all your doubts.

I also rank Kapil amongst the all time great allrounders.

Yep, sure, there was never any doubt they are great cricketers.

       Alan Border
       * second highest run maker (8700+)
       * more than 125 test catches (most by anyone I believe)
       * 200 test innings
       * best bowling 7-46 AGAINST THE WEST INDIES
       * hasn't scored a Test century in 2 years, but has averaged above 50
         during that time.
       * ask the current Australian team about his greatness

Of course, Sunny is retired, so we might as well talk about Bradman or
Sobers or Lillee or Greg Chappell.

Well I dunno about being the *only* one. When you were debating this, I
figured the same was probably true of Border, but I didn't have access to the
statistics to prove it. How do you know it's true of Javed? I figured out the
other day that Border could get 13 ducks in a row and still have a test
average better than 50.

As I said, there's no doubt that they're great cricketers. But there are
lots of equally great cricketers around who don't get mentioned in this group
because they're not from Pakistan or India. For example, Viv Richards, Desmond
Haynes, Malcolm Marshall, Jeffrey Dujon, Alan Border, and I suppose David
Gower. Gooch and Hadlee are exceptions in that they have got their fair share
of attention here (But only because England toured India and New Zealand
toured Pakistan?).
In particular I was impressed at the way Imran appeared 5th on your list
even though you admitted to not know how many wickets he had taken. Heck, you
might as well have put David Boon there.

... NOPE , I think they should include G-R-E-A-T batsmen like MARK
TAYLOR and E-V-E-N GREATER bowlers like TERRY ALDERMAN (hee hee hee)

No, I guess Azaruddin or Ramiz will be a better choice :-)

***y oath. Mark Taylor is the best batsman in the world, and is already
better than Javed and Azharuddin put together.

Sure, he has a slim chance at that if they play with their left hands.

I used to have access to all kinds of statistics when I was in India. An
interesting one is out of Gavaskar's 216 innings (maybe off by a few)
he scored single digit scores (< 10) in 45 of those innings. Thats a
whopping 20% of his total innings played. Inspite of that he ended up
scoring > 10000 runs.

By the way I am posting this just for information. This whole debate
about who is great is getting really stale. All these cricketers are
equally great in different ways and its a waste of bandwidth fighting
about it.
