Indian cricket team must be revamped now
Eden Gardens is a venue where Indian cricket has recorded
some of its greatest achievements. On Sunday, the Kolkata
ground also served as the backdrop to one of the
countrys most crushing defeats as the Indian team
crumbled like a house of cards in the face of an English
***. There is no more space or time for excuses even.
Coming on the heels of the shameful loss in Mumbai, where
too the Indian side put up a performance that was way
below par, the debacle at Eden Gardens has only served to
accelerate the decline of a team that unfortunately has
been on the downslide for quite some time now
particularly in the more trying longer format of the
game. India was at the top of its game when it travelled
to England for the four-match Test series in 2011 but by
the end of that tournament, it had been relegated to the
end of the pile. The Australian tour that followed proved
to be equally disastrous. By the end of it, a disgraced
Indian side had returned home after having lost eight
consecutive Test matches abroad.
