Aus 2nd XI test side?

Post by Joha » Sun, 16 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I was just thinking that a 2nd XI Aus Test team could probably beat
England... then again just about any team could beat ENG at them moment.

Anyway, on present form my 2nd XI side:

1/ MTG Elliott (Vic)
2/ DA Fitzgerald (SA)
3/ DR Martyn (WA)
4/ DS Lehmann (SA) (Capt.)
5/ SM Katich (WA)
6/ MG Bevan (NSW)
7/ BN Haddin (NSW) (W.K.)
8/ IJ Harvey (VIC)
9/ AC Dale (QLD)
10/ MS Kasprowicz (NSW)
11/ CR Miller (NSW)

And while I'm at it:
3rd XI
1/ JL Arnberger (VIC)
2/ ML Hayden (QLD)
3/ MJ Di Venuto (TAS)
4/ ML Love (QLD)
5/ BJ Hodge (Vic)
6/ A Symonds (QLD)
7/ S Lee (NSW)
8/ DS Berry (NSW) (W.K.) (Capt.)
9/ AJ Bichel (QLD)
10/ SA Muller (QLD)
11/ BA Williams (WA)

Well in their current away series England are doing rather better than Pak,
India and WI are in
theirs and made a better showing in Aus in the recent Ashes series.  They
even beat Aus in a Test
in Aus, something even RSA didn't do recently.  We'll see where Eng stack
up against WI later
this year but away from home India have to be the worst team in the world
and WI look rather
shakey too, Pakistan clearly have the talent but don't seem to use it
well.  Currently NZ are looking
a shade above the rest, it'll be interesting to see how the Aus tour there
goes.

That statement only holds true if you want to extend the run of both
teams to over an entire decade or greater. If you look at just the
last 2 or 3 seasons, there's no doubt the above is false. India have
been absolutely appalling abroad, as always. But have we lost *TEN*
straight tests on tour? I think not.

Harish [who thinks an India-WI series today - in the WI - would be tight]

What the hell...........most S.S. ( stuff Puka milk ) sides would beat
England and even NSW might give them a run for their money

Hayden for Elliott on the grounds that Elliott has sucked in his last 10 tests.

Miller from NSW?
He lives in Victoria and plays for Tasmania.

Also a couple of the young quicks have made impacts.

Actually, on a completely irrelevant point, Mike Hussey was my 9th grade
science teacher. There ya go :), maybe that's why I didn't pick him :P.

Can't bowl, can't throw! What's he done to fall to the 3rds? He recently
played a Test, not to mention took "Six for the game" against India (got a
7th, IIRC).

"Mystery Virus", apparently. JL said at the media conference (post SA
game) that he came through the game well and is getting stronger each
day.
